Website Accessibility Policy

The City of Mesquite, Nevada is committed to providing equitable access to information and services for all residents, visitors, and stakeholders, including individuals with disabilities. We strive to ensure that our digital content and online services are accessible, inclusive, and compliant with applicable laws and standards.

Commitment to Accessibility

In accordance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the U.S. Department of Justice's rule on web and mobile app accessibility (effective compliance deadlines beginning April 2026 for larger jurisdictions and April 2027 for smaller ones), the City of Mesquite aims to make its website (www.mesquitenv.gov) and associated digital content accessible to people with disabilities.

We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as the technical standard for our web content and mobile applications (if any). We also monitor developments in WCAG 2.2 and intend to incorporate its additional success criteria where feasible to enhance accessibility for users with cognitive disabilities, low vision, and those using mobile devices.

This commitment extends to:

  • All pages, documents (PDFs, Word, etc.), forms, videos, and interactive elements on www.mesquitenv.gov.
  • Third-party content and tools embedded or linked from our site, to the extent we control or procure them.
  • Digital services provided on behalf of the City.

Ongoing Efforts

To achieve and maintain accessibility, the City:

  • Conducts regular automated and manual accessibility testing using tools such as WAVE, axe, screen readers (e.g., NVDA, VoiceOver), and keyboard-only navigation.
  • Trains staff and content creators on accessible content practices (e.g., alt text for images, proper heading structure, color contrast, captioning/transcripts for media).
  • Performs periodic audits and remediates identified barriers.
  • Incorporates accessibility requirements into procurement processes for websites, software, and digital services.
  • Encourages feedback to identify and address issues promptly.

Known Limitations and Exceptions

While we work diligently toward full conformance, some legacy content, third-party applications, or complex features may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Where exceptions apply (e.g., due to undue burden or fundamental alteration under ADA rules), we will provide equally effective alternative access upon request.
